The new McMillen Family Pavilion at Franke Park is a new state-of-the-art event space tucked off Goshen Avenue in Fort Wayne, Indiana. We were fortunate to be a part of the project and install over 9,000 square feet of our StrongTread Classic system. StrongTread Classic is our Class B polished concrete with a salt and pepper finish.
Two acetone dye colors, Welsh Slate and Concrete Gray, were selected for the project to complement the natural concrete floor. Acetone dye flashes quickly compared to water-based products to create crisp lines for designs.
We installed a 7-foot by 12-foot layout of Fort Wayne Parks’ logo. The design is centered with the Pavilion’s entrances in the lobby and event hall. Welsh Slate was installed surrounding the logo, leaving the design as the negative space of the natural concrete floor. One of the main rivers was then dyed with Concrete Gray to make the design pop further.

The polished concrete floors continue in the Event Hall. Rather than cutting a standard 12-foot by 12-foot control joint grid, their measurements were specifically designed to include the dye colors, Welsh Slate and Concrete Gray, and the natural concrete surface. This created a clean transition where colors and the natural concrete met.
