When updating this home, designed by renowned midwestern architect, Orus O. Eash, a modern design while keeping durability top of mind was important to the homeowners. The idea of polishing the concrete floors made sense for the space.
The home’s design consists of two intersecting circles, with a northwest-facing glass wall in the living room. Polished concrete floors were chosen for the living room, dining room, and kitchen. The finished space included kitchen cabinets, built-in bookcases, and the curved wall of the home. StrongTread Classic was chosen for its salt-and-pepper aggregate exposure.
After removing the home’s original vinyl tile squares, a grout coat was used to fill in surface defects and voids in the surface. The homeowners selected a natural concrete finish – no added stains or dyes – and the team polished the floor to a 400-grit satin finish sheen, with a densifier and stain guard application. The satin finish offers a nice complement to the natural light while the gray-toned floor offers a natural and neutral palette to accommodate a variety of designs, artwork, and furniture selections.
