The University of Northwestern Ohio (UNOH) is a private college located in Lima, Ohio. The university currently has almost 4,500 students enrolled, making the class sizes small and professor-to-student ratio quite manageable. Racers Station – a space for students to play pool, video games, grab a snack, study, meet for group projects, and just hang out – is where Dancer Concrete Design utilized our talents at this university. Contracted by Alexander + Bebout, Inc. and designed by Dancer Design, this new-construction facility will serve UNOH’s students in many different capacities.

Since this space is so large and open, a warm color was chosen for the floor to complement the deep-red walls and other accent colors in the area. A mixture of reactive concrete stain, Mesquite, and a custom-blend of penetrating dyes, chocolate brown and sand, were all used in the space to make sure the floor fit right into the design. This combination also produced a great variety of movement throughout the concrete surface. Our team polished this floor to produce an 800-grit high sheen finish. This polishing level was chosen because of the reflectivity it would produce, adding even more variety and character to the space. A mixture of Class A and B aggregate exposure was desired for the space. These design elements were carried out onto the covered outdoor patio space as well. In the restrooms at Racers Station, our team sealed the concrete for extra protection.
